Message of the day - April 25, 1999:

Hi everyone,

I hope those of you who made it by for the online birthday party enjoyed the party favors. If you were one of the people who stopped by, were you able to get a decent connection speed, or was it awful slow? I noticed that most of the afternoon, line usage was near or at 100%. That means at least 3 simultaneous 56k modem users would still see normal speeds, but it looks like it was busier than that. I'm sure the large quantity of large files didn't help matters, but judging by the log, most (over 80%) people got everything, or at least all of the BNSF images. E-mail me at cbiel@sbcglobal.net if you have any comments.

One bit of fresh news on the server at home plans, I recently bought an old Sun Sparcstation LX so I could have my 8600 back for working on the site in good old MacOS. Photoshop is kind of slow running in MacOS X's blue box vs. native MacOS 8.x. Anyway, now that I have a real server, I'm working toward getting the BN Archive going again. I'm shooting for May 15th as the date it comes back online. Processor-wise, the Sun LX is pretty slow, but over 10Mbit ethernet, ftp performance is near 1 MB/sec, close to the theoretical max, so it should have no trouble keeping up with a 128k ISDN line.

Today I am posting the last four red and silver pictures (all relettered ex-SF SD75M's) for the time being, and am starting on relettered (but not repainted) ex-Santa Fe units. These are all in the blue and yellow warbonnet paint. Heritage II painted SD70MAC's will be next after 35 more relettered units.

Enjoy!
