Message of the day - August 18, 2005:

Hi everyone,

Lately it has been the Mark R. Lynn show on the BNSF, BN and Santa Fe and I may as well keep it going as long as I can, as fast as I can. The subject is once again BNSF Red and Silver Warbonnets, and there were plenty of variations to enjoy as the railroad developed their image.

Of today's five, B40-8W #573 is the obvious standout. Mark had some comments on this particular unit as it was a special case job at the time, and as far as I know is the last unit painted in BNSF red and silver. Del Grosso's BNSF 2004-2005 Locomotive Review lists this unit as being painted on August 29, 2000 just three days before Mark's photo. By this time the Heritage II (aka Premium Heritage) paint was the well established norm for this locomotive. However, the paint job was a warranty claim, and GE would not repaint it under warranty into the orange and green, so it received fresh red and silver.

Enjoy!
