Get ready for a busy month, as I have several auto rack photos to post and would like to be done with them all by the end of February. Rather than rush out with these photos of Auto Racks as I have done with most freight cars in the past, I took the time to make an index page for them like I do with locomotives. Of course, the primary reason I have not made good indexes of freight cars in the past is that I have never had a good freight car roster or much for reference materials, and for that matter I have not really gone out of my way to get such information. Fortunately, Robert C. Del Grosso's "Burlington Nothern & Santa Fe Railway 2002 Locomotive Review and Freight Car Directory" dedicates 38 of its 208 pages to freight cars and includes a good roster summary including heritage of cars. This book even includes the BNSF auto rack assemblies on TTX flat cars. Considering the size of BNSF's freight car fleet is much larger than the locomotive fleet a detailed and accurate roster would be a huge task. I do not intend to provide a complete freight car roster, simply a sensible index to photos I have online. I don't have much for auto rack photos now, but there are about 65 photos of 41 cars coming. Shooting those two unit Auto Max cars is a little costly when I choose to include a shot of the entire car plus one of each unit as is the case with BNSF 314007. HO modelers out there ought to be happy to see these, and 11 more are on the way! Enjoy! |
