Message of the day - January 25, 2004:

Hi everyone,

Today I did something I always wanted to do - shoot every locomotive and car of a train. I never could do this with a film camera, since film runs out at frame 39 if not sooner. The main reason I chose the Kodak DCS 760 over all other 6 megapixel digital cameras was its 24 shot buffer, and the ability to use PCMCIA hard disks for storage. I started out with a 512 MB compact flash card, making my "roll size" go up to 53 frames. Pretty neat - much better than 39. I recently got a 5 GB PCMCIA hard disk, and now my "roll size" is 554 frames. So I tried to shoot four entire trains and managed to shoot three. The fast intermodal led by C44-9W #4871 is the one that got away, as it was going fast enough for me to fill that 256 MB buffer so I missed about six units of the train. On trains going 30mph or slower, today was pretty much a dream come true. Especially for the intermodal led by C44-9W #4168. I will say that it takes quite a while to back up 413 6 megapixel photos to several CD-R's, but that is a good problem to have.

Enjoy!
