Hi everyone, Happy New Year! To kick off 1998, I have C44-9W's in 3 different paint schemes, including a nice shot by Moss E. Hulsey of C44-9W #740 in the new BNSF "Heritage II" scheme. While at first glance, 740 is the most interesting shot, all are particularly intereresting in one way or another. The two shots of red and silver C44-9W's reveal two variations of the scheme. The first units in the 700 series were delivered with "Santa Fe" lettering in the nose band as is the case with C44-9W #724. Later units (including 739, 740, and 745 painted in the Heritage II scheme) sport a new nose band with BNSF lettering as is shown by C44-9W #727. Even the shots of C44-9W #980 are intersting in a way. I posted both the usual roster shot, and a consist shot. The consist shot is what is particularly interesting. It is on the point of a unit coal train! I have never seen this in person, and was surprised to see this photo. BNSF generally uses SD70MAC's, SD60's, SD40-2's and C30-7's for this purpose. Oh, also, for what it's worth, there are now 100 BNSF images on this site! Almost enough to make getting started on those roster pages I keep talking about (and putting off) worthwhile! Well, hope you like what you see so far. As always, I welcome your comments, criticism, and most of all, contributions! Feel free to e-mail me - cbiel@sbcglobal.net. Enjoy! |
