Message of the day - July 16, 2001:

Hi everyone,

Here are five more GE C44-9W's from Mark R. Lynn. Once again, I may as well point out some subtle differences to be found. One notable change in the Heritage II paint scheme is the size of the BNSF lettering in the nose band. Earlier Heritage II units such as C44-9W #4851 sport shorter lettering about the same height as Santa Fe lettering on Warbonnets. Later units have larger BNSF lettering, as shown by C44-9W #4964. The change did not happen immediately, so there is not a single number that marks the change from small to large lettering.

Regarding my comment yesterday about the C44-9W with the small BNSF lettering under the number on the cab, Mark says "ALL of the C44's that had the small BNSF under the number have had it removed during regular shoppings. This project has been complete for a while now. The stick-on letters come off real easily with a heat gun. Just soften up the glue and pull em off." I guess I have not been that observant lately. Kind of nice to have pictures so I might catch on to these little details.

Enjoy!
