Message of the day - July 10, 2007:

Hi everyone,

Well, after 10 years straight of not missing a month for the BNSF, I finally took a month off. Instead of spending my time on photos, I spent it on setting up a new server. A few of you may have noticed the site was down for a few days, that was due to an error I made in setting up DNS on the new server. I think all should be fine now.

While most people upgrade to something more "powerful" I opted to upgrade to something more efficient, and took that idea somewhat to the extreme. The site has run for nearly 7 years on a Sun workstation with a relatively efficient 180 watt power supply. As much as I like Apple and was tempted to get a Mac Mini, I opted for a VIA EPIA mini ITX PC and installed Free BSD (sort of Mac OS X like). The main reason I selected the VIA was for ultra low power consumption. It has a 60 watt power supply and actually uses about 20 watts. So now I not only recycle electrons, I use quite a bit less. The computer is completely fanless, and runs both quiet and cool. Hopefully it will prove as reliable as the good old Sun, time will tell.

As for today's photos, I had a request come up for some BN SD40-2's and while I did not have much for BN SD40-2's ready to work with I checked my digital collection and found a few that I had not already posted. These are ex-BN at this point, but at least they are still in BN paint.

Enjoy!

This web page is made from 100% recycled electrons.
