Message of the day - July 14, 1997:

Hi everyone,

Well, this is starting to look kind of like a "photo archive." You likely saw the main page on your way to this one, and it may look quite familiar to those of you who regularly visit the BN Archive or SF Super Fleet Archive. My apologies for having such a large intro graphic, but I like it, and I hope those four thumbnails made a good first impression. (Read: Was it worth the wait? No? Are you using a 9600 baud modem? Yes? Well, what can I say. I suppose you could disable image loading when you hit the main page.)

If you spent some time scrolling the main page, you probably noticed that the "BNSF Motive Power Roster and Photos" text is not a link yet. There are several reasons for that. I could say that since there are few images, it would make it cumbersome to surf to each unit's page only to find one, two, or maybe four photos. I am also not sure what to do about roster pages, as I still have not seen a re-numbering plan so that no BN and ATSF units have the same number. But you don't have to buy those lame excuses - just call me lazy. I'll get to it...one of these next months....

Oh, one more thing. I would like to thank everyone who took the time to send me your opinions on what image size to use. 798x598 was the most popular, but there are still several people who prefer the smaller images. I decided to go ahead and do both. I will post the large images for a limited time (two weeks, maybe more if I am lazy or preoccupoed with something else). The 640x400 images will stay online for "permanent" reference. Eventually, if I ever find the time to convert all the 2000+ BN images and nearly 200 SF images to 800x600, then I will do an across the board site conversion. This will most likely happen when and if I ever move to a different web server (like one at my house connected by dedicated ISDN or better).

Oh, yet one more thing - another little decision I have made is to cut back the number of images I post day to 5 instead of 10. I will probably cut back on the SF site as well, as I don't have that much material to work with there either. As for BN, at a rate of 10 per day, I still can't seem to keep up. But I don't mind...didn't think that bothered you either.

Well, hope you like what you see so far. As always, I welcome your comments, criticism, and most of all, contributions! Feel free to e-mail me - cbiel@sbcglobal.net.

Enjoy!
