Hi everyone,
Today I'm, am posting a mix of SD70MAC shots. The first three are my own shots of a DPU train. These were common from January to March of 1999 in Saginaw, but I seldom see BNSF DPU trains now. I seldom see coal trains, for that matter. They probably run the same time of day as they did January through March, but 2:30 to 3:30 pm is just not a good time of day to take pictures until after daylight saving hits in the fall. Funny how this pattern seems to be the same over the past few years. Or maybe I should say it's to be expected. They were probably right on schedule. You could just about set your watch by them. Perhaps the coal trains are running less often now. During the spring when temperatures are mild, a lot less AC translates to a lot less power being consumed, meaning less need for coal at the power plants. Seems logical. I wonder if coal traffic will be picking up again in the heat of the summer. The last two shots are from contributor Chris Stewart, including an interesting shot of SD70MAC #9965 just a month after it was built. I may be wrong, but it may not even be on it's first revenue service run yet, as the MU hoses are not connected to the unit ahead. (?) Enjoy! |
