Hi everyone,
Happy St. Patrick's Day! My original plan for the day was a rather predictable break from the BNSF to update the BN site, but today I got lucky. I e-mailed a friend saying I was hoping to get out and photograph a green locomotive, and I got a very late start. I did not even manage to photograph a single locomotive. I saw a few, but the catch of the day is of all things, a freight car that is not even green. I am not sure if BNSF 481424, a Trinity built covered hopper is the very first of it's kind to wear the new BNSF logo, but the only other car I am aware of so far is also built by Trinity, 5 unit well car BNSF 238031. So I scrounged up four ex-BN green units with BNSF lettering to go with the green theme. Had I been thinking, I would have come up with four BNSF green covered hoppers. Those were rather novel when they first came out, and are relatively rare. So much for making a big deal of how rare a catch BNSF 8075 is, one of the few BN SD40-2's built in Canada with a minor mistake made in the paint. I still find these oddballs pretty neat, and once there are hundreds and eventually thousands of BNSF railcars sporting the new logo, the 8075 will be the more interesting subject once again, but for now that covered hopper steals the show. I must say that the new BNSF logo looks much better on freight cars than locomotives. I may have to consider redoing my website graphics now. Enjoy! |
