Message of the day - March 1, 1998:

Hi everyone,

Last month, I started off the MOTD talking about how I have been spending a lot of time trackside trying to get a shot of one of the new SD70MAC's in the latest "Heritage II" scheme on the lead of a train. Fortunately, I got those great shots that everyone loves so much of #9839 from Moss Hulsey, but I still have not seen one on the lead myself. I have seen four or five, but all were second or third unit. I am beginning to think that whoever is responsible for arranging these locomotive lashups does not like this new paint scheme, so they are hiding the units toward the back of lashups. Anyone else notice this, or am I just unlucky?

Today I am posting for the most part, one interesting lashup. This "series" of shots was the first time I recall seing a train with three BNSF units and no BN, SF or other units breaking up the uniformity. It is also the first time I saw a 4700 class C44-9W. I almost messed up the shot of #4712 as I was quite surprised to see it. Kind of like my above ramblings on the new SD70MAC's, I was disappointed in a way...why couldn't the lashup have been reversed? There is a wye up in Alliance yard, even. Oh well, got to take what they give you. I suppose if they catered to railfans they'd be as behind schedule as some other big western road we know all too well. BNSF will deliver!

Well, hope you like what you see so far. As always, I welcome your comments, criticism, and most of all, contributions! Feel free to e-mail me - cbiel@sbcglobal.net.

Enjoy!
