Message of the day - March 14, 1998:

Hi everyone,

Well, today I am posting shots from not one, but two new BNSF contributors. Jeremy Bubb has contributed to my BN Photo Archives in the past, and has more recently sent me some BNSF shots. Most were action shots where the subject was too distant to make a good scan, but his shot of SD70MAC #9756 (also action) made it past quality control and into the archives. I'll soon be posting several of his BN shots to the BN Photo Archives.

The other contributor, Jim Gehrett is making his debut today. Jim sent mostly BNSF, but also a little BN. I'll be posting more of his shots for the next few days. Jim is the first one to take me up on having a PhotoCD made locally, sending it to me, and receiving reimbursement.

One last thing - there is a story that goes along with my shot of C44-9W #765. November 29th was not an especially good day for photos - as soon as I got to downtown Ft. Worth, I was met by clouds, and they only got thicker as I went north to Saginaw and further to Haslet. Very few subjects were worth exposing film on, since I had Kodachrome 25, and not very much light. I found this train parked in Haslet, and happened to have the tripod in the car, so I was able to get this shot. I think it was f3.5 at 1/15th sec. It's a bit overexposed, but I figured I'd have to do that to have any chance of seeing the truck and underframe detail in the scan of the slide. Anyway, a crew member of the train found it kind of interesting that I was meticulously setting up the tripod to take a picture of his train. He came down to talk with me, and he's got a computer and an ISP, so I gave him the URL for my web page (I wonder if he's reading this). In return, he was nice enough to read the builder info of that new locomotive. Therefore, the builder info on the 800x600 image for this unit does not have the (?) next to it typical of the other 700 and 4700 clas units I have posted. In fact, had it not been for this crew member, there would be only the "?" for builder info, as these are a little too new to be in any of the BNSF Annuals, and I have not subscribed to Extra 2200 South or Deisel Era yet. Those seem to be very good sources for builder info.

Well, hope you like what you see so far. As always, I welcome your comments, criticism, and most of all, contributions! Feel free to e-mail me - cbiel@sbcglobal.net.

Enjoy!
