Hi everyone,
Now it's time for some six axle repaints, mostly yard engines from Northtown Yard in Minneapolis, MN. Today I have a couple slugs and both sides of SD9 #6108. Next time I'll have the SD39's the slugs were coupled to and one more SD39 on it's own here in Texas. The one unit that does not fit the Northtown yard engine theme is SD40-2 #7313. This unit was originally built as an SD40, but has been rebuilt to SD40-2 standards and is considered an SD40-2 by BNSF. In any case, the 7300 class SD40-2's are interesting in many ways due to their Canadian heritage. Most noticable features of this class is the shroud that keeps snow from getting into the air filter. A handful of BN units have these (for example BN SD40-2#8157) and Santa Fe also used these on a lot of rebuilt GP's though most have since been removed. Another more unique feature of the 7300's is the positioning of the ditch lights and the slightly different headlights and numberboards. Enjoy! |
