Message of the day - November 11, 2000:

Hi everyone,

Here are the rest of those yard engines from Northtown Yard in Minneapolis, MN plus one stray unit in Texas. All of today's shots are SD39's, and sure enough there is a little something different about each to point out. While shots from the rear are not usually that popular or sought after, these are perhaps more interesting than front end shots when it comes to spotting detail differences on these particular units. Note that SD39 #6204 has it's brakewheel stand painted to match the hood and a yellow road number on green above the headlight, while SD39 #6207 has it's entire brakewheel stand painted green and a green road number on orange below the headlight. Also note that 6204 has a firecracker antenna while 6207 has a sinclair, and the slightly different horn placement. My shot of SD39 #6212 from the opposite corner does not facilitate much comparison, but I do not recall it having storm windows like 6204 and 6207. These windows are typically only seen on former BN units that work in harsh, cold northern climates so it is interesting to see these on former Santa Fe units that have air conditioners as well! I guess it is not that great a surprise to see these units equipped with those windows and air conditioning. BN TEBUC6 slugs such as BN 6291 and BN 6298 also work as hump yard switchers and have similarly equipped cabs.

Enjoy!
