Hi everyone,
Happy Thanksgiving! I do not expect this bounty of double stack cars is going arouse the excitement that some BNSF motive power repaints or 60's Santa Fe motive power would, but I happen to really, really like intermodal freight cars. Enough that shooting them in trains was the primary factor in my decision to purchase a Kodak DCS 760 (24 shot buffer) instead of a Canon 10D or Nikon D100 (less than 10 shot buffers). So the ability to shoot 24+ shots of cars in a passing train set me back an extra $1000 or so, and I have no regrets. These photos are the first fruits of that extra $1000 investment. Plus at one time I made a habit of posting freight car photos during November and February, but I have let that slip some in years past. Regarding todays photos, perhaps most interesting is a story that goes with two of them. While my dad and I were parked on the shoulder just before taking these photos of Twin Stack #236058 and Maxi I #237528 in Osceola, IA we were paid a visit by a local police officer who was interested in what we were doing (photographing trains). As many of you may be aware, since September 11, police have increased attention toward protecting the railroads, so we really were not surprised when the car pulled up behind us. The officer was courteous, we returned the courtesy, and we carried on with our business, taking these photos after the stop. Actually, the officer did us a favor. I had settled for a couple shots of the train and the lead unit, and was about to leave when the officer pulled up. Just after the officer left, the train started to move, so I got back out and took the opportunity to shoot the locomotives again, as well as several cars. Enjoy! |
