Message of the day - November 3, 1998:

Hi everyone,

Well, I was going to start posting some red and silver BNSF motive power, but those colors sound more like December material, so I am going to post something else - freight cars!

I'm sure there are some people who would rather see the motive power, but without freight cars, railroads don't make much money. Model railroads look kind of funny when the locomotives don't have any cars behind them either. Here are a few of the cars I saw over the past year. No, I don't put up the camera and take off as soon as the locomotives pass by! I'm sure at least two people ought to be happy to see freight cars - Tom Stolte and John L. Becker.

John L. Becker sent me several BN freight car slides earlier this year. I have to admit I put them off a little favoring some more exciting motive power. Then came the spark I needed. I saw (and shot) some BNSF double stack cars, Gunderson Maxi III's no less (my favorite - as you may see if you ever got some e-mail from me and studied the signature). Once I got those slides back, freight suddenly became very interesting. I pulled out a few BN slides to send off with John's, and while I was at it, checked to see how I was doing on BNSF freight. I had over 150 slides! Over the rest of this month, I hope to post all 72 of the non-covered hopper variety. I have not sent off the covered hoppers to be scanned yet, but I could dedicate another month just to them. That will probably come in February or March.

Enjoy!
