Message of the day - October 9, 2003:

Hi everyone,

Well, here I am with five more Heritage II C44-9W's. I intended to come up with something more special for the 2000th image, but I am on a trip to Montana railfanning Marias Pass on the eve of Altamont at the Izaak Walton Inn this weekend. Now that I have a nice digital SLR (Kodak DCS 760) I can take pictures roughly equivalent to Kodachrome slides, and do not have to wait a week for processing.

For image number 2000, I selected what is probably the best scenic action photo I have taken on the trip. At the time, I did not notice that something was a little odd about the third unit in the six unit consist, but if you look at this crop of the full size digital image, this is not your usual C44-9W or AC4400CW. I am not exactly sure what it is and am not in a good position to research it, but believe it is one of the new "GEVO" GE 12 cylinder locomotives designed for improved efficiency and emissions.

I suppose I should add that these images were uploaded from the pay phone at the Izaak Walton Inn, a place at which any GN, BN, or BNSF should spend the night at least once.

Enjoy!
