Message of the day - March 30, 2005:

Hi everyone,

This feast of latest and greatest BNSF ES44DC photos will come at the expense of no Santa Fe blue and yellow update for the month, but considering how much ex-Santa Fe blue and yellow I've done this month, I hope the Santa Fe purist fans will survive.

If you are an active member of various internet discussion forums, then you have probably already seen some photos of the new BNSF logo and the first unit to wear it, ES44DC #7687. Since it is so new, I have not got the builder number yet. I suppose I may have had the opportunity to grab a photo of the "builder plate" decal, however the train this unit is on is rather a special move (featuring CEBX 800, a 36 axle flat car with a 570 metric ton load - the largest and heaviest to be unloaded at the Port of Houston) and there were enough railroad employees around that I felt it would be best to keep a reasonable distance. Plus the decal spent most of the day on the dark side of the tracks.

While I'm not overly proud of this "dark side" shot I got of the train making a curve shortly before calling it a day and stopping in Cameron, TX for the night, I was very fortunate that it did. This allowed me to get a halfway decent roster of the other side, so I have both sides covered.

You may want to check this page again, I may upload one or more MPEG-1 video clips soon. Like this one:

J PTRDEN1 28 "Big Load" at Milano, TX March 30, 2005
MPEG-1 1:32 15.5 MB

Speaking of internet discussion lists, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Railspot members who provided information regarding this train and its progress. Without your help, it is highly unlikely I would have made the spur-of-the-moment 300+ mile journey to obtain these photos. I was within 15 miles of finding this train when I arrived in Somerville, TX to intercept and chase.

Enjoy!
