Message of the day - December 2, 2006:

Hi everyone,

Here are five more photos by from contributor Dan Grobe of Aurora, IL. Once again, the subjects are of the new and exciting variety, with another pair of photos of a NRE "GP38-2" rebuild as well as three GE ES44DC's. This is all I have from Dan for the time being, hopefully there will be more soon. He did limit himself to only submitting new "Wedgie" logo units, since that's been my theme for the year. But this year is almost over, so maybe in 2007 I'll go retro.

For those of you who are not aware of the BNSF order for 40 "GP38-2 equivalent" rebuilds from NRE, only one of these units is rebuilt in kind from as-built GP38-2, the rest of the group were built as GP35's, GP38's and GP40's. While the detail that stands out the most to the casual viewer is probably the use of dual RV style air conditioners on these units, to model them will require some attention to not only the original model, but also attention to significant modifications such as removal of the turbocharger and possible changes to radiator configuration. I'm sure there are more details to consider, such as the dash-2 electrical cabinet.

Enjoy!
