Message of the day - May 3, 2004:

Hi everyone,

Lucky for me, I get to continue the topic of building excitement about the Kato N scale BNSF AC4400CW's. Yesterday was all AC4400CW's, and today I picked up one more. At first I drove past it as I was not pleased with the lighting. Then I remembered I had no clue what the builder number and date were for 5662, so I came back to shoot the builder plate decal of AC4400CW #5682 and got a rear shot since that was the direction of the lighting.

Then I hear a horn to the south, and here comes SD40-2 #7905. After this, I decided to check the rear of the coal train with 5682 on the lead, picking up GP39M #2821 along the way. I just got a glimpse of the rear end power as they began to move, noting two units instead of one, and two particularly clean units. This looked worthy of a chase.

So I head to the nearest location for a nice overhead roster and find not more new AC4400CW's, but two new C44-9W's, specifically C44-9W #5169 and C44-9W #5843. As luck would have it, they stopped north of Tower 55, with the rear of the train right even with a road so I could easily haul out the telephoto and shoot the builder decals from a reasonable distance of these two new (built March 2004) units.

After this, I had plenty of time to get ahead of the train for a properly lit front 3/4 roster of AC4400CW #5682. Unfortunately, I could not quite fit the unit between the pole and tree shadows, but I did the best I could. Knowing I had the shadow problem, I resumed chasing but could not do any better. At least the shadowed part is clearly visible in the earlier photo from the rear.

Enjoy!
