Message of the day - October 6, 2001:

Hi everyone,

Now that October has arrived, it seems appropriate that I am still posting "pumpkins." Today Mark R. Lynn shows a sampling of some interesting old EMD GP's. I am one of those people who has a soft spot for the old GP30 carbody, and lucky for us, Mark caught two former BN GP39M's in orange and green. In the case of GP39M #2829, this is not the first coat of orange and green this unit has worn, as it is former GN 3015. Makes me want to pursue getting some good old GN photos.

Speaking of GN, I got a flier in the mail yesterday from Izaak Walton Inn reminding me that I have missed out on another Altamont weekend. I'd assume that is where Mark is now, and next year I will not have any classes interfering with such railfan trips!

Oh, for you detail buffs out there, this additional shot of 2829 makes for three of four angles covered. Note that the walkways were once and probably still are orange as shown in Al Seever's earlier photo of GP39M #2829. A couple years ago, I would have assumed all Heritage I "pumpkin" walkways were orange. However, in Mark's overhead action shot of GP35 #2583, after the excitement of seeing a GP15-1 and that one-of-a-kind SW10B, note that the walkways all match, and they sure do look green.

Enjoy!
