Message of the day - September 5, 2007:

Hi everyone,

Once again, I'm picking up where I left off with more ex-BN from contributor Dan Grobe. I have always especially liked the GP39E, GP39M and GP39V rebuilds done for the BN. As a N-scale modeler in the early 1990's, the Atlas (Kato) GP30 and GP35 was in my opinion the best running locomotive available period. These rebuilds allowed me to have some nice, modern BN power with a little bit of custom paint and detail work and I did my share of that back then. As a matter of fact, Atlas offered a model of BN GP39M #2813 in factory paint, which has since been BNSF-ized but is still GP39M #2813 in BN green paint. Researching these particular models and the Kato GP50 is what got me into collecting photos of BN locomotives. Thankfully, today there are a lot more options available but these are still among my favorites.

Enjoy!
